Theme: “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”

The UN Women Knowledge and Partnerships Centre in the Republic of Korea is pleased to announce that it will host its 3rd annual International Women’s Day celebration at Lotte Hotel Seoul on March 12, 2025.
Under this year’s theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” the event will focus on collective efforts to address persistent inequalities and empower women and girls globally. This year’s IWD is especially meaningful as UN Women celebrates the 15th anniversary of its establishment, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
We are expecting a diverse and impactful gathering of over 30 Ambassadors and more than 230 participants, including policymakers, diplomats, academics, business leaders, and civil society representatives from both Korea and the international community.
Keynote speeches and panel discussions will explore critical topics such as systemic barriers faced by women and girls, with perspectives from distinguished leaders including:
H.E. Ban Ki-moon, 8th Secretary General of the United Nations and Chairman of the Ban Ki-moon Foundation for a Better Future, who continues to advocate for global gender equality.
Alison Miriam Davidian, Special Representative of UN Women Afghanistan, who will illuminate the struggles of Afghan women and girls under restrictive conditions.
Yewon Kim, Human rights attorney and founder of the Disability Rights Advocate Center, who will address the intersection of gender and disability.
Humberto Carolo, Executive Director of White Ribbon Canada, who will highlight the critical role men can play in addressing hyper-masculinity and contributing to the prevention of technology-facilitated gender-based violence.
Soong-nang Jang, Dean of the Red Cross College of Nursing at Chung-Ang University, who will discuss the caregiving burdens disproportionately affecting women in Korea due to entrenched cultural expectations.
Building on the momentum of previous events, this year’s IWD celebration will offer a platform for meaningful discussions on structural barriers to gender equality and sustainable solutions to achieve inclusive empowerment for all women and girls.
