UN Women Deputy Executive Director to Visit the Republic of Korea

United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and UN Women Deputy Executive Director Anita Bhatia will visit to the Republic of Korea on 10-12 October 2022. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen the collaboration between UN Women and the Government of the Republic of Korea and participate in the planning for the operation of the UN Women Centre of Excellence for Gender Equality.

Anita Bhatia will participate in the Centre’s first steering committee meeting, joined by Sarah Knibbs, Acting Regional Director of UN Women in Asia and the Pacific and Jeongshim Lee, Director of the UN Women Centre of Excellence for Gender Equality.

Established with the support of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the Centre serves as a hub for training, research and partnership cultivation by supporting public, private, academia and civil society stakeholders in Asia and the Pacific in realizing their commitments to gender equality and empowerment of women.

During her visit, Ms. Bhatia will meet with senior government officials, including Hyunsook Kim, Minister for Gender Equality and Family, Yong-min Park, Deputy Minister for Multi-lateral and Global Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Seok-hwa Hong, Vice-President of Korea International Cooperation Agency and Hoon Han, Commissioner of Statistics Korea to discuss areas of cooperation and the importance of supporting ongoing projects.

During her visit, the Deputy Executive Director will also participate in the 2022 Daejeon United Cities and Local Governments World Congress, the largest gathering of mayors, presidents of associations, local elected officers, and practitioners from around the world. She will be a panelist for the Future of Feminist Municipalism: Putting Care and the Sustainability of Life at the Center of Policy and Action session and a speaker for The Pact for the Future for People: Equality and Care session.
