UN Women and Srikandi BUMN Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Promote Gender Equality in Business

Jakarta, 19 February - UN Women and Srikandi BUMN signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in accelerating gender equality and women’s empowerment in the business sector.

Operating under the auspices of Indonesia’s Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (KBUMN) and the Indonesian Human Capital Forum (FHCI), Srikandi BUMN is a women’s community of State-Owned Enterprises dedicated to fostering an inclusive and equitable work environment for women in BUMN. Building on Srikandi BUMN's commitment and UN Women’s universal mandate to advance gender equality, the MoU will leverage synergies that aim to enhance businesses' efforts to drive positive change for women in Indonesia.

The MoU was signed by Ulziisuren Jamsran, UN Women Indonesia Representative and Liaison to ASEAN, and Fikha Lutfi, the Chairwoman of Srikandi BUMN. Concurrently, four state-owned enterprises—ANTAM, BTN, InJourney and WIKA—also signed the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) to demonstrate their commitment as a leaders in achieving gender equality.

Advancing gender equality in Indonesia could add USD 135 billion to its annual GDP, 9 percent above business as usual. Companies with three or more women in senior management roles consistently outperform across all organizational dimensions. Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir set a target of 25% of women in leadership roles within BUMN, reinforcing the importance of gender equality. In line with this, Srikandi BUMN commits to become the catalyst in achieving the targeted number of women in State-Owned Enterprises’ Board of Directors.

To enhance some of these opportunities and to align with national strategies on increasing women's leadership in business, the MoU establishes a framework for cooperation whereby both parties will work closely to foster an inclusive environment for women's empowerment by: (1) Jointly develop and implement capacity-building on gender-responsive business practices within State-Owned Enterprises, (2) Collaboration on research initiatives to review and develop gender equality and women’s empowerment policies, and (3) Technical Assistance to support Srikandi BUMN in adopting and integrating Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) into their business culture and practices.

Through Srikandi BUMN, we champion women’s leadership by fostering an inclusive, collaborative work environment that prioritizes shared progress. By adopting positive workplace practices and building synergies, we can set a strong example and have more women leaders advancing BUMN performance,” said Fikha Lutfi, Chairwoman of Srikandi BUMN.

By empowering women and championing gender equality, we unlock vast potential and drive sustainable economic growth. Together, we are committed to nurturing leadership, fostering innovation, and creating opportunities for women in the business sector in State-Owned Enterprises,” said Ulziisuren Jamsran, UN Women Indonesia Representative and Liaison to ASEAN.

Since 2021, UN Women and Srikandi BUMN have joined forces to promote leadership and empowerment for women in BUMN through the WEPs. Established by UN Women and the UN Global Compact, WEPs provide businesses with guidance to advance gender equality in the workplace, marketplace, and community. To date, 14 State-Owned Enterprises have signed the WEPs, showcasing a strong commitment to advance gender equality. These signatories have emerged as leaders at the 2024 WEPs Awards with award-winning initiatives and leadership commitment. WEPs Awards recognizes companies’ good practices and initiatives to advance women’s empowerment and gender equality.

This partnership is supported by UN Women’s new initiative, ‘Gender Action Lab (GAL): Innovation and Impact for Gender Equality in Asia-Pacific’ supported by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) aims to advance further the commitment from Indonesian companies in adopting gender-responsive business policies and practices.

The cooperation between UN Women and Srikandi BUMN emphasizes stronger investment in women's empowerment, which is expected to contribute to Indonesia's inclusive economic growth.

UN Women dan Srikandi BUMN Menandatangani Nota Kesepahaman untuk Mempromosikan Kesetaraan Gender di Perusahaan

Jakarta, 19 Februari - UN Women dan Srikandi BUMN menandatangani Nota Kesepahaman (MoU) untuk memperkuat kolaborasi dalam memajukan kesetaraan gender dan pemberdayaan perempuan di sektor bisnis.

Bekerja di bawah pembinaan Kementerian Badan Usaha Milik Negara (KBUMN) dan Forum Human Capital Indonesia (FHCI), Srikandi BUMN adalah komunitas perempuan di Grup BUMN yang bertujuan untuk menciptakan lingkungan kerja yang inklusif dan setara bagi perempuan di BUMN. Berangkat dari komitmen Srikandi BUMN dan mandat UN Women untuk mendorong kesetaraan gender, MoU ini akan memanfaatkan sinergi yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan upaya sektor bisnis dalam mendorong perubahan positif bagi perempuan di Indonesia.

MoU ditandatangani oleh Ulziisuren Jamsran, Perwakilan UN Women untuk Indonesia dan Liaison ASEAN, dan Fikha Lutfi, Ketua Srikandi BUMN. Mencapai kesetaraan gender di Indonesia dapat menambah USD 135 milyar terhadap Produk Domestik Bruto tahunan, 9 persen di atas rata-rata pertumbuhan. Perusahaan dengan tiga atau lebih perempuan di posisi kepemimpinan senior secara konsisten menghasilkan performa yang lebih baik di seluruh dimensi organisasi. Menteri Badan Usaha Milik Negara, Erick Thohir menetapkan target 25% perempuan dalam peran kepemimpinan di BUMN, menegaskan pentingnya kesetaraan gender. Sejalan dengan ini, Srikandi BUMN berkomitmen untuk menjadi katalisator dalam pencapaian target jumlah perempuan di posisi Direksi BUMN.

Untuk meningkatkan peluang akan manfaat dari kesetaraan gender dan dalam menyelaraskan strategi nasional untuk meningkatkan kepemimpinan perempuan di dunia usaha, MoU ini menetapkan kerangka kerja sama untuk menciptakan lingkungan inklusif bagi pemberdayaan perempuan, dengan: (1) Mengembangkan dan mengimplementasikan penguatan kapasitas dalam praktik bisnis yang responsif gender di seluruh lingkungan BUMN, (2) Berkolaborasi dalam penelitian untuk meninjau dan mengembangkan kebijakan kesetaraan gender dan pemberdayaan perempuan, serta (3) Asistensi teknis untuk mendukung Srikandi BUMN dalam mengadopsi dan mengintegrasikan Prinsip-Prinsip Pemberdayaan Perempuan (WEPs) ke dalam praktik dan budaya bisnis.

“Sudah saatnya Perempuan Indonesia maju melalui kolaborasi dalam berbagai sektor dan terbuka dalam berbagi peluang bersama pihak manapun. Melalui Srikandi BUMN, langkah implementasi kepemimpinan perempuan dalam perusahaan yang mengadopsi hal-hal positif dengan menciptakan lingkungan kerja yang inklusif, kolaboratif dan mengedepankan kepentingan bersama serta terbuka dalam menjalin kerja sama dalam berbagai pihak, dapat menjadi role model bagi perempuan Indonesia di manapun berada”, ucap Fikha Lutfi, Ketua Srikandi BUMN.

“Kemitraan dengan Srikandi BUMN menandakan langkah penting menuju lanskap bisnis yang lebih inklusif dan setara di Indonesia. Dengan memfasilitasi sektor bisnis untuk memberdayakan perempuan dan mendorong kesetaraan gender, akan membuka potensi yang luas dalam mendorong pertumbuhan ekonomi yang berkelanjutan. Bersama, kami berkomitmen untuk membangun kepemimpinan, mendorong inovasi, dan menciptakan kesempatan bagi perempuan di BUMN,” ucap Ulziisuren Jamsran, Perwakilan UN Women untuk Indonesia dan Liaison ASEAN.

Sejak 2021, UN Women dan Srikandi BUMN telah bekerja sama untuk mempromosikan kepemimpinan dan pemberdayaan perempuan di BUMN melalui WEPs. Diinisiasi oleh UN Women dan UN Global Compact, WEPs memberikan panduan bagi perusahaan untuk mendorong kesetaraan gender di tempat kerja, tempat usaha, dan komunitas. Hingga saat ini, 14 BUMN telah menandatangani WEPs, menunjukkan komitmen kuat untuk mendorong kesetaraan. BUMN Penandatangan WEPS muncul sebagai pemenang di 2024 WEPs Awards, dengan inisiatif dan komitmen kepemimpinan yang kuat. WEPs Awards mengapresiasi praktik baik dan inisiatif perusahaan untuk meningkatkan pemberdayaan perempuan dan kesetaraan gender.

Kerja sama ini didukung oleh inisiatif baru UN Women, ‘Gender Action Lab (GAL): Innovation and Impact for Gender Equality in Asia-Pacific’ yang didukung oleh Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) dan bertujuan untuk mendorong komitmen dari perusahaan Indonesia dalam mengadopsi praktik dan kebijakan bisnis yang responsif gender.
