Participatory Research on Gender-based Vulnerabilities to Climate Change in Cambodia

Cambodia is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Women are often disproportionately affected by the impacts of climate change, as deep-rooted gender norms exacerbate new and existing inequalities. This in-depth, participatory research was conducted by BBC Media Action under the EmPower project to understand root causes of gender-based vulnerabilities to climate related hazards by reflecting on the experiences of men and women in two communities in Cambodia. It also examines how gender norms affect the decision-making processes related to these actions in response to climate change. A range of participatory tools was used to understand the perspective of different stakeholders and accurately reflect this in the research.
