Event description

Unprecedented UN survey of 10,000 Asian men reveals new insights into reasons for men's violence against women

United Nations Multi-country Study on Men and Violence in Asia and the Pacific, conducted by Partners for Prevention, a UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN Population Fund (UNFPA), UN Women and UN Volunteers (UNV) regional joint programme

Findings will be presented from an unparalleled UN study in Asia and the Pacific which provide insights from 10,000 men and 3,000 women on what drives some men to become violent against women and what can be done to prevent it. The extensive study conducted in six countries reveals that rates of physical and sexual violence, including rape, are widespread in the sites surveyed in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Sri Lanka.

The UN Multi-Country Study on Men and Violence asked men about their childhoods, relationships, health, sexual practices, gender attitudes and use of violence against women and girls. The study is based on the largest cross-country comparable data set on men's use of violence in Asia-Pacific to date. It was carried out by Partners for Prevention, which is a UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN Population Fund (UNFPA), UN Women and UN Volunteers (UNV) regional joint programme for gender-based violence prevention in Asia and the Pacific.

Speakers will include:
