Event description

Partners

With support from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the ASEAN Secretariat partnered with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) to strengthen the capacity of ASEAN Member States to systematically collect and use data related to VAWG through the development and dissemination of the ASEAN Regional Guidelines on Violence against Women and Girls Data Collection and Use (ASEAN VAWG Data Guidelines). The ASEAN VAWG Data Guidelines are part of UN Women’s support to ASEAN for the implementation of the ASEAN Regional Plan of Action of Elimination on Violence against Women (ASEAN RPA on VAW). The development of the ASEAN VAWG Data Guidelines is a main priority in the ASEAN RPA on VAW. This priority comes from recognition that data gaps are frequent, pathways to improved data are not always clear, and the evidence of the impact of VAWG programming is limited. The ASEAN VAWG Data Guidelines are an important step to eliminate VAWG in ASEAN, as VAWG cannot be effectively eliminated without reliable data.

These guidelines will be a step towards improving evidence-based VAWG prevention and response policies and programmes as well as the quality and availability of services, protection and justice for women who experience violence.

Objectives

To present, launch and disseminate the ASEAN Regional Guidelines on Violence against Women and Girls Data Collection and Use. The importance of data to inform programmes to end violence against women will be discussed through short stories from key speakers on how violence against women and girls data and evidence have the power to change people’s lives.
