Gender and Elections training for Central Province timely

Date:

UN Women’s Gender Equality in Political Governance Programme (GEPG) has just successfully concluded another BRIDGE Gender and Elections workshop in Gaire, Papua New Guinea.

The 19 participants were the second group trained from the Central Province of PNG following the initial workshop run by GEPG last year.

Of the 19, 11 were women marking a significant increase of interest by women to be more active in the process of elections.

The workshop was timely as it came at a time when the country is preparing for the general elections to be held next year. The majority of the participants were mainly involved in the upcoming general elections as campaign managers, intending candidates, spouses of intending candidates and youth.

The participants as multipliers of knowledge, will now help GEPG roll out the same workshop in their communities including Abau, Kairuku, Hiri and Goilala districts.
