Launching of the Second Edition of the ASEAN Gender Outlook: Achieving the SDGs for all and leaving no woman or girl behind
Event description
Background and Rationale
Over the past 50 years, Southeast Asia has gone through rapid economic transformation, urbanisation and demographic shifts. This has brought remarkable gains on poverty reduction and improvements on the health and wellbeing, but rising inequalities and the adverse impacts of climate change continue to pose challenges for sustainable development. Addressing these issues is of key importance for ensuring no woman or girl is left behind.
In 2015, Member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) charted the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, in full complementarity with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The region’s commitment to achieving the two, is a remarkable effort that continues to be undertaken by all ASEAN Member States.
With the second iteration of the ASEAN Gender Outlook, produced in partnership with UN Women and the ASEAN Secretariat, Member States take stock of the progress made towards the SDGs through gender perspective, using multi-level disaggregation analysis to assess who are the groups of women and girls that are at risk of being left behind, including who the disadvantaged population groups are, and some specific challenges they face.
During this launch, the key findings of the report will be presented, to provide an overview of key highlights and a panel will discuss among others on the usage of the Second Edition of the ASEAN Gender Outlook to inform national and regional policies as well as to inform the Post-2025 ASEAN Community Vision.
Participants
Around 200 participants will be invited to attend the launch physically, with more participation online from other relevant sectoral bodies.
Time and Duration
The launching of the Second Edition of the ASEAN Gender Outlook will be held for 2 hours 10 minutes on 10 September 2024 from 3.00 pm to 5.10 pm (GMT+8) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and via video conference.
