Men leaders in Bangladesh to Pledge Support to Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality

In celebration of International Women’s Day, male leaders in business, politics, diplomacy, sports, arts, academia, youth advocacy, media, development sectors step up their support to advance gender equality at the launch of UN Women’s global campaign HeForShe in collective action.

Ambassador Johan Frisell of Sweden
Ambassador of Sweden to Bangladesh since September 2014.Mr. Frisell has been in the Swedish diplomatic service since 1994. He has been posted to St. Petersburg (Russia), Nairobi (Kenya) and to the Swedish Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels (Belgium). In Stockholm, he has held several positions at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and he has worked in the foreign policy bureau of the Prime Minister. Between 2010-2014, Mr. Frisell served as director and deputy head of the Security Policy Department at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, covering i.a, United Nations affairs and peace-keeping issues. He is married to Eva and they have three children.
Christine Hunter, UN Women Representative in Bangladesh
Christine Hunter began her career in Canada, with focus on increasing women’s involvement in decision-making and preventing violence against women. As the director of an NGO she supported senior police officers in making their police forces more sensitive to issues of gender equality and later chaired an inter-ministerial committee to improve and monitor the justice system response to violence against women. Chris provided technical support to the Indonesian National Commission on Violence against Women in 1999/2000, supported NGOS in Nepal to become resource for gender equality and worked in Sri Lanka in 2007 supporting a project on women and peace-building. As a senior advisor for the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam she supported capacity strengthening for governments, development partners and civil society in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Vietnam, and several regions of Africa. Chris has undertaken research and developed resource material on a gender and rights approach to a wide range of development issues.
