Bangkok, Thailand — A new agreement between the Federation of Thai SMEs and UN Women aims to improve market opportunities for women-owned businesses, in particular for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) supplying large corporations and government departments.  

“In today’s global business, it is evident that women make great leaders, are natural innovators, and help companies grow and thrive. Women are not only entrepreneurial by nature but also good at business, people and team management. It is so obvious that we need more women entrepreneurs in national and global markets.” said Sangchai Theerakulwanich, President of the Federation of Thai SMEs.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Friday in Bangkok by Sangchai and Sarah Knibbs, acting regional director of the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.

The MoU provides a strong framework for the two organizations to create together an ecosystem where more underrepresented groups including women in SMEs can lead businesses, and equally access and benefit from more inclusive market opportunities.

The cooperation will take place under UN Women’s regional programme WE RISE Together, which aims to create a more inclusive and gender-diverse marketplace. The programme aims to bring about a shift in public and corporate procurement, encouraging both sectors to source more from diverse suppliers. It also targets other activities to reduce gender inequality.

In her statement, Saranya Tangwongkit, Country Programme Coordinator, Thailand, UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific stated that over the years, Thailand had made progress on gender equality in the business sector, especially in the areas of promoting women in leadership as well as gender-inclusive workplace. However, there remains unfinished priorities that we need to focus on which include “creating equal market opportunities for everyone”.

The key joint areas of work in the MoU are developing policies and practices toward gender-responsive procurement, increasing the capacity of SMEs to become more resilient, and strengthening market connections between suppliers and buyers, in both the private and the public sectors.

Areas of collaboration will include several awareness-raising and capacity-building activities, including the organization and promotion of the bi-annual UN Women Thailand WEPs Awards, to honour outstanding commitments to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) by companies and individuals in the business community. The 2024 edition of the awards in Thailand will include a dedicated section for entrepreneurs.

To achieve the objectives of WE RISE Together programme by 2025, the Federation of Thai SMEs and UN Women are set to work closely with women-owned businesses, enterprises that empower women and take into account the impact on gender equality, and entrepreneurs who feel left behind during the pandemic. Participating enterprises and buyers will join UN Women’s business community, benefit from upcoming skill-building programme and build worthwhile business/market connections.

กรุงเทพฯ, ประเทศไทย — ข้อตกลงใหม่ระหว่างสมาพันธ์เอสเอ็มอีไทยและ UN Women มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อพัฒนาศักยภาพ และเพิ่มโอกาสทางการตลาดเพื่อให้ธุรกิจที่ผู้หญิงเป็นเจ้าของ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งวิสาหกิจขนาดกลางและขนาดย่อม (SMEs) สามารถซัพพลายสินค้าและบริการให้กับองค์กรขนาดใหญ่และหน่วยงานภาครัฐได้อย่างเท่าเทียมยิ่งขึ้น

“ในธุรกิจระดับโลกในปัจจุบัน เห็นได้ชัดว่าผู้หญิงก็สามารถเป็นผู้นำที่ดี เป็นผู้คิดค้นริเริ่มโดยธรรมชาติ และช่วยให้บริษัทเติบโตและก้าวหน้าได้เช่นกัน ผู้หญิงไม่เพียงแต่เป็นผู้ประกอบการโดยธรรมชาติเท่านั้น แต่ยังเก่งในด้านการดูแลธุรกิจ ผู้คน และการจัดการทีมอีกด้วย ดังนั้นจึงเห็นได้ชัดว่าเราต้องการผู้ประกอบการสตรีมากขึ้นในตลาดระดับชาติและระดับโลก” แสงชัย ธีรกุลวาณิช ประธานสมาพันธ์เอสเอ็มอีไทยกล่าว

MoU ดังกล่าวระบุกรอบการทำงานของทั้งสององค์กรในการร่วมพัฒนาระบบนิเวศทางเศรษฐกิจของประเทศไทยให้มีความเสมอภาคทางเพศที่ครอบคลุมยิ่งขึ้น โดยมุ่งเน้นส่งเสริมกลุ่มผู้ประกอบการที่ยังขาดโอกาสทางเศรษฐกิจ ซึ่งรวมถึงผู้หญิงในธุรกิจ SMEs ให้สามารถเป็นผู้นำธุรกิจ เข้าถึงและได้รับประโยชน์อย่างเท่าเทียมกัน

ความร่วมมือนี้เกิดขึ้นภายใต้โครงการ WE RISE Together ของ UN Women ซึ่งมีเป้าหมายเพื่อสร้างตลาดที่มีความครอบคลุมและหลากหลายทางเพศมากขึ้น เพื่อพัฒนาการจัดซื้อจัดจ้างของทั้งทางภาครัฐและเอกชน และช่วยให้ทั้งสองภาคส่วนสามารถเข้าถึงซัพพลายเออร์ที่หลากหลายมากยิ่งขึ้น นอกจากนี้ยังมีแผนจัดกิจกรรมอื่น ๆ เพื่อลดความเหลื่อมล้ำทางเพศอีกด้วย

ศรันญา ตั้งวงศ์กิจ ผู้ประสานงานโครงการประเทศไทย สำนักงาน UN Women ประจำภูมิภาคเอเชียและแปซิฟิกระบุว่า “ในช่วงหลายปีที่ผ่านมา ประเทศไทยได้สร้างความก้าวหน้าเรื่องความเสมอภาคทางเพศในภาคธุรกิจไว้อย่างชัดเจน โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง ในเรื่องเกี่ยวกับผู้นำธุรกิจที่เป็นผู้หญิงและสถานที่ทำงานที่คำนึงถึงความเสมอภาคทางเพศ อย่างไรก็ตามยังมีอีกหลายประเด็นที่เรายังคงต้องมุ่งมั่นพัฒนา รวมทั้งเรื่อง “การสร้างโอกาสทางการตลาดที่เสมอภาค”

กิจกรรมหลักที่จะมีการทำร่วมกันต่อไปตามข้อตกลง ได้แก่การพัฒนานโยบายและแนวปฏิบัติในการจัดซื้อจัดจ้างที่คำนึงถึงความเสมอภาคทางเพศ การเพิ่มขีดความสามารถของ SMEs ให้มีความยืดหยุ่นมากขึ้น และการเชื่อมโยงซัพพลายเออร์ที่หลากหลายเข้ากับผู้ซื้อจากทั้งทางภาครัฐและเอกชน

นอกจากนี้ ทั้งสององค์กรจะสอดแทรกการสร้างความตระหนักรู้ถึงความสำคัญของความเสมอภาคทางเพศต่อการเติบโตของเศรษฐกิจ และการเสริมสร้างศักยภาพและทักษะที่สำคัญในการดำเนินธุรกิจให้แก่ผู้ประกอบการ SMEs ที่เข้าร่วมโครงการ รวมทั้งสนับสนุนและร่วมจัดงานประกาศรางวัล UN Women Thailand WEPs Awards ประจำปี พ.ศ. 2567 เพื่อยกย่องผู้นำองค์กรธุรกิจ โครงการและแนวปฏิบัติที่ดีขององค์กรธุรกิจไทย ที่ได้ส่งเสริมความเสมอภาคทางเพศตามหลักการเสริมสร้างศักยภาพสตรี (WEPs)

เพื่อบรรลุวัตถุประสงค์ของโครงการ WE RISE Together ภายในปี พ.ศ. 2568 สมาพันธ์เอสเอ็มอีไทยและ UN Women จะมุ่งทำงานอย่างใกล้ชิดกับธุรกิจที่มีผู้หญิงเป็นเจ้าของ ทุกองค์กรธุรกิจที่ใส่ใจเรื่องความเสมอภาคทางเพศ และผู้ประกอบการที่ประสบปัญหาและขนาดการสนับสนุนในช่วงการระบาดของโควิด-19ที่ผ่านมา เพื่อให้ผู้ประกอบการ SMEs และองค์กรที่มีอำนาจในการซื้อสามารถเข้าร่วมชุมชนองค์กรธุรกิจของ UN Women และได้รับประโยชน์จากกิจกรรมเสริมศักยภาพและทักษะเกี่ยวกับการดำเนินธุรกิจพร้อมสร้างคอนเนคชั่นกับธุรกิจอื่นๆ และตลาด
